The Xiaomi SU7 is a battery electric full-size sedan developed by Chinese company Xiaomi Auto, a subsidiary of the Chinese consumer electronics company Xiaomi. It is the first Xiaomi vehicle, and is manufactured under contract by BAIC Off-road in Beijing. It was announced in December 2023. The car was formally launched on 28 March 2024 in Beijing, with Xiaomi starting to take orders for the car on that day.
According to Xiaomi, 'SU' stands for 'Speed Ultra', and the number 7 indicates the car's market segment. 'SU' also be a reference to a Chinese word which means 'speed'. The SU7 is available in three versions, namely the SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max.
Xiaomi announced its intent to enter the electric vehicle market in March 2021. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun claimed the company would invest 10 billion yuan (US$1.4 billion) into the project. Xiaomi Automobile was established in 2021, based in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. The company received a permit to produce vehicles from China's National Development and Reform Commission in August 2023.
